To pre-qualify for a mortgage, your mortgage lender will need information about your financial situation. This will help determine how much you can afford to spend on a house, what kind of monthly payments you can afford, and what home loan program best suits your needs.
Some of the documents typically required when applying for a mortgage include:

- Proof of Social Security Number (SSN) or ITIN for some loans
- Last 2 years of W-2 forms from your employer
- Last 30 days of pay stubs with a breakdown of pay and deductions
- Last 2 months’ bank statements
- 401 K or Retirement Statements last quarter or last 2 months if monthly
Additional Items You May Need
- 2 Years P&L if self-employed
- 2 Years Tax Returns if self-employed
- College transcripts (if you graduated within the last 2 years)
- Divorce decree or court order defining alimony or child support payments, if applicable
- Mortgage statement, tax bills, and homeowner’s insurance (if you currently own a home or land)
